14. Thomas LUCAS was born about 1818 in Burslem, Staffs.⁵ 1881 census would put Thomas' date of birth at around 1811. Roy Bilsborough estimates the christening as ca. 1820. He appeared in the census in 1841 in Dale Hall, Burslem, Staffs.⁶ In 1861 he was a chairmaker.⁷ He appeared in the census in 1881 in Chapel Street, Sandbach, Cheshire.⁵ In 1881 he was a chair maker (cabinet maker).⁵ He died after 1881.⁵

Thomas LUCAS and Jane POTTS were married on 31 Dec 1838 in Astbury, Cheshire.⁹ In 1851 the family (Thomas, Jane and children Thomas, Phoebe and Sarah) are living in Buglawton. By the time of the 1881 census they are living in Chapel Street, Sandbach (Son Davis is still living at home, working as a butcher). In 1891, Thomas and Jane are still in Sandbach, Thomas still listed as a Chairmaker. Jane POTTS¹⁰ (daughter of Living and Living) was christened on 22 Sep 1822 in Marton, Cheshire.¹ She appeared in the census in 1841 in Dale Hall, Burslem, Staffs.⁶ She appeared in the census in 1881 in Chapel Street, Sandbach, Cheshire.⁵ The most likely baptism so far (from Marton Parish Records) is that of: 22 Sep 1822, Jane, daughter of George & Ann Potts, at Marton, father's occupation 'Labourer'. This entry also appears on the IGI.

The following entry appears to be too early, Jane described herself as a minor at her marriage in 1837: 9 Aug 1813, Jane, daughter of George & Mary Potts, at Marton, father is 'Tailor - Clerk of this chapel.' Thomas LUCAS and Jane POTTS had the following children:

That being the case, this would be the family in 1881: 19 Rowbotham Street, Manchester, Lancs. John Tomkinson, age 34, born in Sandbach, Cheshire, occupation carpenter. Sarah Tomkinson, age 34, born in Congleton, Cheshire, wife. Anne J. Tomkinson, age 14, born in Sandbach, Cheshire, daur, occupation cotton weaver. Anna M. Tomkinson, age 10, born in Sandbach, Cheshire, daur, scholar. John T. Tomkinson, age 7, born in Clayton, Lancashire, son, scholar. William Tomkinson, age 5, born in Newton, Lancashire, son, scholar. Sarah Tomkinson, age 1, born in Manchester, daur.
21	vii.	David LUCAS was born in 1862 in Sandbach, Cheshire. He appeared in the census in 1881 in Chapel Street, Sandbach, Cheshire.5 In 1881 he was a butcher.5
