First Generation
1. Jonah MOUNTFORD. Jonah MOUNTFORD
and Mary WALLER were married on 20 May 1769 in Biddulph, Staffs.1 Jonah and Mary seem to have been married previously
and illegally in Stoke-on-Trent. The following entry is from Biddulph Parish
Records and is appended to the christening entry for their daughter Sarah (28
Apr 1769):
"NB The father and mother of this infant were married in the Parish Church
of Stoke-on-Trent on or about the 18th Oct 1768 being both Parishioners of Biddulph
at that time the woman under age and married without consent of parents. They
have since the baptism of this child been legally married in this church with
the consent of parents." There is a transcription
discrepancy (Norman Collection, transcription of Biddulph Parish records). The
marriage entry refers to Mary WALLER, the baptismal entry for daughter Sarah
refers to Mary MELLOR being the mother. Jonah MOUNTFORD and Mary WALLER had
the following children:
2 | i. | Sarah MOUNTFORD was christened on 28 Apr
1769 in Biddulph, Staffs.1 | +3 | ii. | Ellen MOUNTFORD. |
