Seventh Generation

61. Jonathan HARDING35 was born on 18 Feb 1883.35 He died on 4 Jan 1923 in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, USA.35 He died as a result of lung problems from mining. There is a story about Jonathan. When he went to the USA he did not realise that this was to be a permanent move and so he hid his chickens in a stone wall so that no one would take them. They were rescued! This story re-surfaced when his nephew Fred was serving in the army during World War II. Fred ran into some Hardings who remembered the story of the chickens in the wall. He had planned to meet them again, but got shipped out to Africa and was not able to make contact again.

Another anecdote from Jonathan is that when he spoke about travelling across to the USA he said he had to walk on stones. It seems likely that there were stones in the bottom of the ship, and that they were coming over on the cheapest fares.
